HISTORY OF
VFW RED ROSE MEMORIAL POST 2435
The Red Rose Post 2435 Veterans of Foreign Wars, was organized June 24, 1932
at Hotel Columbia, Locust Street Columbia Pa. They were organized with 22 members.
Francis Gaus was elected first Commander; Calvin Ward, first Quartermaster; and Frank Tragresser, Adjutant.
Post 2435 was a bachelor post till March 3, 1944 when they instituted the Ladies Auxiliary.
Louise Depew was the first President of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Post.
The Post then moved to Avenue N, Columbia, Pa, in 1959.
At that time they had 74 members and Charles Feltenberger was the Commander of the Post.
We started building our new Post at 4th and Manor Streets, Columbia, Pa, in 1970.
It took our membership 5 years to build our Post. The Red Rose Post was finally opened for business July, 1975.
Our membership at that time was 125 and our Commander was Charles Feltenberger.
In 1979 we burned the mortgage. Our membership had more than tripled from our opening dedication in 1975 to
444 active members. Our current Commander, Joseph Luzader, thanks everyone for their contributions and support.
